How do I post news?

Write a post, and send it to your members in the same breath. Each one keeps an address of its own.

Request support

News is a title and a few lines. Open News, write it, press Post it, and it is on the home page the next time somebody opens it.

A picture on a post

Under the box is a row of your photographs. Tap one and it goes at the top of the post, and on the card on your home page. It is also the picture people see when somebody pastes the link into a group chat, so finals day looks like finals day rather than like every other post.

The photograph has to be one you have already uploaded. Add it under Photos first.

Writing it now and posting it later

There is a tick that says Save it for later, do not post it yet. It keeps the post, off the website, until you press Post it now beside it in the list. Write up finals day on the Sunday and post it when the photographs come in.

Changing one you have already posted

Edit opens the post again with its words in the box. Its address does not change, so a link anybody has already been given goes on working. That is the difference between fixing a typo and deleting the post.

Sending it to your members as well

There is a tick under the box: Send it to members as well. It puts the same words out as the club’s own message, which is the thing your members already get. So finals day goes up on the website and into their app in one go.

The tick is only there if you are allowed to send the club’s message. The limit on how many of those a club sends in a week still applies. See the club’s own message.

Every post keeps its own address

A post has an address of its own from the moment you post it, and it keeps it. Somebody pastes it into a group chat, and it still works a season later. The screen shows you the address under each post.

The home page carries your last 4 posts, and All news under them opens every post you have ever written, newest first. The older ones keep their own addresses too.

It tidies itself

News is the one part of a website that goes stale, so it looks after itself. A club that has not posted for a year has News taken off the home page rather than showing the season before last.

Nothing is deleted, and the posts keep their addresses. Post something and the block comes back. This is the failure every club website has: a page that says what was happening two years ago.

Your news page is not affected. That one is your archive, and an archive is meant to be old.

What to write

Short is fine. A line about a match, a date for the AGM, the courts being resurfaced. It is worth one every few weeks, because a website with something recent on it is one people come back to.

Deleting one

Delete takes a post off. Anybody who has the link gets a Not found, and the screen tells you that before you do it.
