Somebody wants their data. What do I do?

What you can answer yourself, what a deletion really means, and what to send on to us.

Request support

A member writes and asks what you hold on them, or asks you to delete it. Under UK data protection law they can, and you have a month to answer.

Most of it you can do yourself, in a few minutes.

What you hold on somebody

Open their name on your members. What is on that screen is what your club holds: their details, their tags, their seasons, their matches, their subscriptions and anything recorded against them.

You can read it back to them, or take a backup and pull their part out of it.

Changing something that is wrong

They can change their own email, phone and address on their You screen. That is the quickest route and it needs nothing from you.

Their name and the rest is the club's, so those come to you.

Asking to be deleted

Start by asking what they actually want, because the two answers are different.

Most people mean stop contacting me. Take their address off, or mark them as left, and nothing more goes to them.

Some mean everything. Remove on their record deletes it for good, but it will not delete somebody who has played matches, because those results are other people's records too.

That is not us being difficult. A result is a fact about two players, and one of them cannot delete the other's season.

What to send to us

If they want what we hold rather than what the club holds, or if you are not sure which it is, send it on. Get in touch with the club's name and what they asked for.

Your club's data sits in a database of its own, holding nothing but your league. The privacy policy says what we collect and how long we keep it.

Somebody under 18

The request comes from whoever looks after them, not from the child. Ask, if you are not certain who that is.
