Your level is one number for how good you are, from 1.0 to 10.0. It is worked out from your results across everything the club runs: boxes, the ladder, tournaments and club nights. Nobody types it in, and nobody can change it by hand.
You will find it on your own screen under Where you stand, and at the top of any member’s record.
What one level apart means
A player one level above you wins about two matches in three. Half a level is a close game. Two levels apart is a mismatch, and both of you will know it by the third game.
That is the whole point of the scale. It is there so you can find someone worth playing.
Settled, getting there, not settled
Beside your level is a word for how sure we are of it.
- Not settled. You are new, or you have played very little. The number is our best guess and it will move a long way on your next few results.
- Getting there. Enough results to be in the right area. Still moving.
- Settled. We are confident. A single result will nudge it, not swing it.
Take a season off and the word goes back the other way. Your level does not drop while you are away. We just become less sure it is still right, which is a different thing.
How a result moves it
Beating someone above you moves you up more than beating someone below you. A close win counts for less than a thrashing. A doubles result counts for half, because it says less about you on your own, and a club night round counts for a quarter.
A walkover moves nothing at all. Nobody played. If someone retires hurt, the player who was ahead gets the win in full.
It is ours, and it is not a WTN
This is your club’s own measure, worked out from your club’s own results. It is not a WTN, an LTA rating or an ITN, and it does not convert into one.
Those scales work because players move between clubs, which ties every club to every other one. Your club’s results only compare your members with each other. That is exactly what you need to pick a fair match at your club, and it is not a number that means anything anywhere else.
What it is not for
There is no level table to win, no season, no reset and no prize. It is a measure, not a competition, and that is deliberate. The moment a number like this has a prize on it, people start playing the number: ducking the strong newcomer, sitting out while it looks good.
It opens no doors either. Nothing in the app is locked or unlocked by your level.
Your club can turn levels off for members, in Settings. Staff can always see them.
