Getting started
From an empty league to a club that is using it.
How do I start a league?
A club name and an email address, and your league is running at its own web address a few seconds later.
What happens when I first sign up?
A short guided tour that runs a whole season, including the rollover, on players it then deletes.
What can we run?
Box leagues, ladders, tournaments and club nights, what each one is for, and which to start with.
How do I get this on my phone?
Add it to your home screen on iPhone, Android or a computer. Fifteen seconds, and it keeps hold of your sign-in.
Who is allowed to do what?
Owners, the competitions manager, box admins, players and the three club roles, and what each of them may touch.
How do people sign in?
Two doors, and neither needs a password: an email address with a six-digit code, or a player link you tap.
How do I invite all my members?
One button tells every member what is happening, and it counts your register before it sends.
How do I bring our list in?
Drop your spreadsheet in, check the columns, see what it will do, press it. One press undoes it.
How do I bring in my staff?
Everybody who helps run the club is invited with an email address, and it becomes their permanent sign-in.

How do I enter a score?
Tap the cell, type the sets, save. Your opponent confirms it, or it confirms itself after a few days.
What if a match didn’t finish?
A walkover, a retirement, a court that ran out of time, and what to do when nobody can agree the score.
How do I arrange a match?
Offer up to six times you could play and your opponent taps one. Nobody's phone number goes anywhere.
Where does my position come from?
A box is points and a tie-break, a ladder is a rating, a draw is a seed, and a club night is the points you won.
Which match formats can we play?
Every format each sport is offered, and how to build the one your club actually plays if none of them fits.
How do doubles boxes work?
A pair takes one row in the table, plays one match against each other pair, and shares the points.
What is my level?
One number from 1.0 to 10.0, worked out from your results across everything the club runs. One level apart means the higher player wins about two in three.
How do I find somebody to play?
Post when you are free, or a four that is one short, and the first member to say yes takes it. Friendly or ladder, in the app only.
Leagues
Box leagues: building a season, and rolling one into the next.
How do I build a season?
A name, two dates, how many boxes and how it is scored. It starts as a draft nobody else can see.
How do I add or remove a player?
Type a name into a box column, move people between boxes, and merge two records that turned out to be one person.
How does one season roll into the next?
The top few go up, the bottom few go down, and you get a draft to check before any of it is live.
What is the table saying?
The results grid, the standings and still to play, and how to share any of them as a picture.
How are the points worked out?
What a win and a bonus are worth, how to set your own numbers, and how a table level on points is separated.
What about matches nobody played?
Give them longer, award it to one side as a walkover, or take both sides out. Three answers on one screen.
How do I run separate groups of boxes?
Put boxes in named groups so each one runs as its own league, and put the boxes in the order you want.
The ladder
A rating that runs all year, beside the boxes.
How does the ladder work?
A rating for every player that runs all year. Placing matches, who you can play, and resting.
Fixed pairs or rotating doubles?
A doubles ladder holds pairs. A rotating one holds people, and the rating is yours rather than the pair’s.
How do I set up a ladder?
Hand out the ladder’s player link, and choose whether the ratings start again each year or never.
Tournaments
Club championships, from the entries to finals day.
Which kind of tournament should we run?
A knockout, a championship and plate, groups into a knockout, or a social night. What each one is for.
How do I set up a tournament?
A name and two dates, an event per competition, entries that are already open, and the players’ sign-in link.
How does the draw work?
Seeds and byes, the plate for first-match losers, groups into a knockout, and a bracket that corrects itself.
How do I run finals day?
Pick the matches in order, put times against the ones you have decided, and it copies out as a picture.
Club nights
One evening, one table, and no draw at all.
How do I run a club night?
Everybody enters on their own, partners rotate every round, and your score is the points your side won.
What is an americano?
A new partner every round, and you score the points your side won rather than the match.
What is a mexicano?
Each round is dealt off the table as it stands, so by half way you are playing people on your own score.
Courts
The club diary your members book on.
How do I book a court?
Pick the day and the time, and the court is answered for you. Three taps, on the club plans.
How do I set up court booking?
Your courts and their names, when the club is open, peak times, booking limits, and who may book at all.
How do I block out club night and coaching?
Take as many courts out as you like, name what it is for, and nobody already on one is ever cancelled.

Lessons
Asking a coach for an hour, giving one, and putting a coach on.
How do I book a coaching lesson?
See who coaches at your club and what they charge, suggest times you can play, and the coach picks one. On the club plans.
I coach here. How does it work?
Put your own prices up, answer the hours members ask for, run a group, and square up with the club at the end of the month.
How do I put a coach on?
Pick somebody off your register, tick visiting if they are not a member, and say who takes the money and what your share is.
Teams
The sides your club puts out in a league somebody else runs.
How do I run a team?
Paste the fixture list once, ask who can play with one press, and pick the side from who says yes. On the club plans.
I have been asked to play. What now?
Tap yes, no or maybe, and change your mind whenever you like. Nothing about it is binding, and only your captain sees your answer.
What does a captain do?
Ask, pick, hold the courts and put the result in. A captain runs their own sides and sees nobody’s contact details.
Around the app
The screens everybody has, whatever they play.
What is Home telling me?
A queue of things that need a person, ordered by how urgent they are, and every one of them can be finished.
Where are my own matches?
Everything you still have to play, every season you have played, and the details the club holds about you.
What does the league send, and to whom?
A bell in the app, a push to your phone if you ask for one, what arrives on a clock, and the few things that also come by email.
How do I message every member?
One message to the whole club from the bell, capped at two a week, and it reaches everybody on your register.
How do I put it in my calendar?
Courts, lessons, matches, team fixtures and club nights go into Google, Apple or Outlook in one tap, from the app or the email.
How do I look after my child’s matches?
Sign in as yourself, pick your child from the corner, and arrange their matches, keep their details and read their notices.
Where do I see how everybody else is getting on?

When something is wrong
Sign-ins, emails, payments and the odd thing that will not behave.
Something is wrong. How do I report it?
What to ask your club, and what to ask us. You get a copy, and the reply comes back to your address.
Why can’t I sign in?
The link that has stopped working, the code that never arrived, and the sign-in with nobody attached to it.
Why did an email not arrive?
Spam, an address that bounced, somebody who asked us to stop, and the club whose sending is paused.
Why are there two of the same person?
What a merge keeps, what it cannot move, and which of the two tools is the right one.
Why is it showing me old information?
The fix, why an installed app can be a version behind, and what still works with no signal.

Who can see our club’s pages?
Names and scores for this season, and nothing else. You can shut that too, in one box under Settings.
How do I get my members in?
Import the spreadsheet you already keep, tag people in your own words, and find anybody in two taps.
Can we change our club’s name or address?
The name changes in a field and takes a moment. The web address is ours to move, and we talk first.
What do the figures tell me?
Members, who stays, who plays, who they are and what came in. Counted from what you already have.
How do I put our sponsor on the page?
One local name under your season line and at the foot of every picture you share out of the app.
Your club’s website
The pages at your club’s own address, and the table on a site you already have.
How do we get a website for the club?
Press Start and your club has a draft website, built from what it already has. Publish when you are ready, and take it down in one press.
What goes on the home page?
One line, a picture, your badge, then About, news, photos, who to ask, safeguarding and documents, in whatever order you want.
What are the other pages, and can I add my own?
Four pages read straight off your club and keep themselves right. Pages of your own get an address that never changes.
How do I write and lay out a page?
A row of buttons over every long box, a live preview beside it, and your words saved as you type.
How do I put photos and documents on it?
Upload a photo, say what is in it, and tick to say the people in it are happy. Documents work the same way.
How do I post news?
A title, a few lines, and it is on the home page. Nothing to keep tidy: an old feed takes itself down.
Whose name and details go on the website?
Nobody, unless your club put them there on purpose. Tables, draws, bookings and results carry no names at all.
What changes when we publish it?
Search engines list it, your tables go behind sign-in, and your court sheet can go public. Nothing is deleted if you take it down.
How do I put the table on the website we already have?
Two lines to paste, and your standings, ladder or latest results keep themselves up to date.
Collecting the subs
Your members paying the club, into the club’s own bank.
How do we collect subs by Direct Debit?
Connect your club’s own GoCardless account and the money goes from the member straight to your bank.
How do I set our prices and membership year?
Your own categories at your own prices, households priced as one payment, and pro-rata part way through.
How does somebody join the club?
They apply through your joining link and set up the Direct Debit. You say who they are on your register.
How do renewals work?
Last year’s Direct Debit collects this year untouched, and a dead one is replaced on the member’s own link.
How do refunds work?
You refund in GoCardless. One press here puts the reversing entry on the member’s record so the two agree.
How do I record cash and bank transfers?
Bank transfers, cash and cheques count the same as a Direct Debit, and a sub the club decides to waive says so.

How do I get my data out?
Your members, results, subs, courts and coaching as spreadsheets that open in Excel, and where your database lives.
What does my club have to do about GDPR?
Pay the ICO fee, tell your members what you hold, keep only what you use, answer people who ask, and know what to do if it goes wrong.
Somebody wants their data. What do I do?
What you can answer yourself in a few minutes, what deleting somebody really means, and what to send on.
What is the demo, and does it reset?
A public sandbox with real functionality and fake data. It puts itself back every hour.
