There are two doors, and both work
Everybody can sign in with an email address and a six-digit code. Players can also tap a player link and pick their own name. Neither needs a password, and a player who uses one is not shut out of the other.
The difference worth knowing: a player link expires when the season ends, and an email address does not. So a player who signs in by link every season needs a new link every season, and one who adds an address never asks again.
Who can see the tables without signing in. Anyone with your club's web address can read this season's boxes, ladder and draws: names and scores, the notice board. Past seasons and a player's own record across seasons are for signed-in members. If you would rather the whole lot were members only, there is a box for it under Settings. The tabs stay, and anybody who opens them is asked to sign in. Player links work either way.
Signing in by email
Tap sign in, type your address, and a six-digit code arrives within seconds. It works once and lasts 15 minutes. Type it in and you are in.
Which address? Whichever one your club already holds for you on its register, or one you added yourself on the You screen. Both work, and you do not need to know which is which.
If two people share an inbox, which is common for a couple or a family, the code is followed by one more question: which of you is this. Tap your own name.
Some things this door will not do, all of them deliberate. It will not sign in a junior, whose details are the club's business with a parent. It will not sign in from an address the club holds for somebody's parent or guardian. And once you have answered a code on an address, that address is yours: nobody can change it by editing the register.
Nothing arriving? Check spam, and check the address is the one your club has for you. If the club has none for you, ask them to add it, or use your player link and add one yourself from the You screen.
Owners and everybody who runs the club
The same door, with the address you were invited on. The address you set the club up with is an owner's from the first second, because you proved it before the league existed.
Anybody who runs the league signs in by email and only by email. A player link is shared in a group chat, and it may not hand out a sign-in that can change a season. So tapping your own name on one is refused, and it tells you to use your email instead.
Been invited but never got the email? Check spam, and check it is the exact address you were invited with. The league owner can see and resend from the Roles tab.
Player links
Your box admin posts one link per box in the group, and it is the same link all season. Tap it, tap your own name from the list, and you are in on that phone. If you get signed out later, tap the same link again; it still works until the season ends.
Opened the link inside WhatsApp's own browser? You will see a warning, because sign-ins made there often do not stick. Use the ⋮ menu to open it in Safari or Chrome first, then pick your name there.
Installed the league on an iPhone and found it signed out? That is iOS giving the installed app its own storage rather than anything being broken. Sign in with your email, or open sign in, choose Got a player link? Paste it instead, and paste the link from your group: tapping it would open Safari rather than the app you just installed.
Taking your address back
One tap on the You screen. Your sign-in, your record and your player link are untouched; what goes is the address and any way for us to reach you. The club cannot stop you, and neither can its settings.
Signing in on another phone or computer
Signed in already and need the same account on another phone or a laptop? Use Use on another phone in the tools row. It copies a one-hour, one-time link. Open it on the other phone or computer within the hour and it signs you in there, with nothing to pick from a list.
Sessions otherwise last about six months before you would need to sign in again the normal way.
