The home page is the one page every club website has. It is in two halves: the top, which is your club’s name and the first thing anybody sees, and six blocks underneath it that you choose and order yourself.
The top
Open About the club and the first few boxes are the top of the page.
- One line under your name. What somebody should know in six words. It is the only line on the page that a stranger is certain to read.
- The big picture. One photograph across the top. Tap the part that matters and the crop holds on to it, so a face or the net stays in shot on a phone as well as a laptop.
- Your badge. It sits in the bar at the top of every page. Add it on the same screen.
- The second button. Beside Join, you get one more button pointing at a page of your own site. Courts, if your diary is open. Coaching, if you run lessons.
The six blocks
Under the top of the page there are six. Each has a switch and a pair of arrows, so you decide what is on the page and in what order.
- About the club. A paragraph or two in your own words.
- News. Your latest posts. See news.
- Photos. The ones you have ticked. See photos and documents.
- Who to ask. The people who run things. See who is on the website.
- Safeguarding. Your welfare officer and your policy.
- Documents. Rules, minutes, fees.
A block you switch off is gone from the page. Nothing in it is deleted, and switching it back on brings it all back.
Where you are
Further down the About screen is your ground: the name, the street, the town, the postcode and a map link. Under those there is a box for how to find you, which is where the gate that is always locked and the parking go.
Write it once and it is used three times. It is on this page, it is behind the map link, and it goes on every calendar invite that does not name a court of its own. See putting matches in your calendar.
What writes itself
The rest of the home page reads your club every time somebody opens it. What is coming up comes off the season you are running, and the prices come off your membership year. Put next year’s subscription up in April and the page has it that afternoon.
