The plate
The plate is drawn on a button, never automatically. And it goes on first match rather than first round. Somebody given a bye plays their first match in round two, and if they lose that, they are in the plate too. So the button waits until every entry has a first match with a result on it, and until then it names whose match it is waiting for.
